Berry Gordy founded what would become Motown Records a half-century ago with an $800 loan.
Today, that would get you two tickets with a bit to spare to the Motown 50 Golden Gala.
For $200 more, you can attend a VIP event and a swanky party afterward.
The event is set for downtown Detroit Saturday, with a scheduled appearance by Gordy and planned performances by Aretha Franklin, The Temptations and duet partners Stevie Wonder and Kid Rock.
The high-wattage night is a fundraiser for the Motown ...
I called it 'Motown,' rather than 'Motor City,' because there was more warmth here -Berry Gordy

Scott Brown knows he faces an uphill battle as a Republican seeking to fill Ted Kennedy's U.S. Senate seat.
Until last week, when Jack E. Robinson filed nomination papers, Brown was the only member of the GOP seeking the seat, which is also the goal of four Democrats.
Although the seat has been in Democratic hands since the 1950s, and more than a decade has passed since Massachusetts voters sent a Republican to Congress, Brown, one of just five Republicans in the state Senate, said there is no inevitability to a Democrat victory.
This isn’t a Democratic seat; it’s a seat of the people of Massachusetts -Scott Brown

Oprah Winfrey's decision to end her Chicago-based syndicated show raises many interesting questions -- among them, who may be in line to assume the daytime TV throne, should it indeed become available.
Daytime has increasingly become the territory of the tawdry and tasteless occupied by the likes of Jerry Springer and Maury Povich -- although pockets of politeness remain with Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres.
There is already speculation among industry insiders that ABC may move its morning talk ...
I'm not so sure there will be another Oprah -David Scardino

Adam Lambert -- the man with the outsize personality who delivered an audacious octave-and-a-half sitar-tinged purr of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" on the most-watched TV show in the country, dodged sex toys thrown at him onstage during the "American Idol" tour and did it all without smearing his eyeliner -- is curled in the fetal position.
Balled up in a patio chair on the 10th-story balcony at the offices of 19 Entertainment in Los Angeles, Lambert is the portrait of the goth as a young man ...

SUSAN BOYLE vs. Adam Lambert in a steel-cage match?

I think it's sex discrimination to give male judges of American Idol higher pay than Paula Abdul and yet she did her job just as good if not better than the male counterparts.

I don't think the American Idol it would be same without Paula Abdul; she brought lots of cheerfulness in the audience and the stage She also gave the contestants love support; and she wished them the best of their luck in their competion. Paula cares for the contestants like they were her own. I wish her the best where ever she goes.
